The Department of the English Language and the Centre of the English Language and Culture invite to the concert on December 21, 18:00 in the Assembly Hall: Lyubov Zolotova and The Minne Singers present "Christmas Carols of Different Times and Traditions", an interactive lecture and concert. This special program will offer you a unique insight into the world of Christmas carols of different countries and times, from the 12th to the 20th centuries! 

You will hear:
     
  • a sacred Christmas carol of the 12th century performed in Latin;
  • the original Huron Carol composed by a Jesuite missionary for the Huron/Wendat tribe of the North America in the 17th century;
  • a heavenly 17th century German Christmas carol Maria durch ein Dornwald ging;
  • energetic Ukranian kolyadki and much more!

You will find out:
  • What Christmas carols have in common with pagan songs and rituals;
  • What nativity hymns sounded like back in early Middle ages
