The history of the Faculty for International Students goes back to the 1960s when the Soviet Union began receiving young people from socialist and developing countries who came to obtain university-level education.

Over the years of its existence, the Faculty has given over 1,500 people a degree in Linguistics and Translation and full professional fluency in two or more foreign languages.

The overwhelming majority of our graduates find professional employment in their countries of origin. As a rule, they get jobs with their Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic corps, radio and television networks, news agencies and publishing houses. They are also in demand in international business, academic cooperation networks and travel agencies. Many of those graduates who have earned a second degree in Pedagogy or have completed a doctoral course at MSLU are involved in foreign language teaching at universities and colleges or set up private language schools in their native countries.

Since 2008, the position of the Faculty Dean has been held by Konstantin Kovalyev, a graduate of the Faculty of Humanities and Applied Sciences, who has been with the Faculty since he graduated from MSLU in 1992.
