The Centre of Dutch Language and Culture at MSLU was opened in 1994 through the joint efforts of MSLU staff members and the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting to promote closer contacts between students from Russia, the Netherlands and Belgium. The Centre is a resource facility, with the Embassies of the Netherlands and Belgium in Moscow and other partners helping to gather and update an extensive collection of books, videos and other materials about contacts between the three countries.

The Centre provides information and translation services with Dutch to institutional and corporate clients, giving Russian students of Dutch their first professional experience. It also offers paid evening courses of Dutch.

MSLU is also a member of the Russian Association of Universities Teaching Dutch (along with Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations and others). Together with partner universities from Dutch-speaking countries, the Association, founded in 1995, encourages and disseminates innovative methodologies for teaching the language, promotes Dutch-Russian literary translations, etc.
