MSLU and Valle University (Colombia) signed a framework agreement

On June 30, 2021, Juan Pablo Duque, lecturer of the Department of Spanish Language and Translation at MSLU Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, visited Valle University in Cali (Colombia) and met with Rector Edgar Varela, Vice-Rector for Research Hector Cadavid, Director of Department of International Relations Adriana Guzman and Dean of Faculty of Humanities Dr. Dario Henao.

The meeting marked signing of a framework agreement meant to formalize the bonds of friendship, mutual understanding, academic and cultural cooperation between the two universities. In October 2020, our university in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Russia, Valle University, Ibero-American Cultural Center of the Library for Foreign Literature and the Institute of Latin America of Russian Academy of Sciences, took part in the scientific congress on literary translation "High Art of Translation" on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the outstanding Hispanist, poet and translator Sergei Goncharenko, who was vice-rector for scientific work of Moscow State Linguistic University until the last day of his life, as well as in various videoconferences as part of the Year of Manuel Zapata Olivella, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Colombia in honor of the centenary of the birth of a doctor, anthropologist, folklorist, novelist, writer, playwright, essayist and researcher, one of Colombia's renowned intellectuals.

Since then, both universities have been in close contact. Rectors Irina Krayeva and Edgar Varela congratulated each other on signing of the agreement. The International Cooperation Departments, headed by Irina Shokina and Adriana Gusman, were in correspondence with the aim of preparing the signing of the agreement. Translation and Interpreting Faculty of MSLU and Faculty of Humanities UNIVALIER, headed by Ekaterina Pokholkova and Dario Henao, published a bilingual edition of the book of stories by Manuel Zapata Olivella "Who gave the rifle to Oswald?"
The Folklore dance group "Carmen Lopez" from Valle University, headed by Francisco Castaneda, was warmly received by the rector’s office of Moscow State Linguistic University. As part of cultural cooperation, the group was accommodated in the hostel of our university. The delegation was escorted by Tatiana Gotka and Roman Trofimov from International Department. Head of the Department of Spanish Language Anna Alvarez Soler and a group of students studying Spanish took the guests to  historical sites of our city.
