Training Program for Candidates for the Competitive Language Examinations: internship in Vienna

From March 20 to 31, students of the Training Program for Candidates for the Competitive Language Examinations (hereinafter referred to as the Program), accompanied by Olga Yevtushenko, PhD, completed an internship at the United Nations Office in Vienna.

During the internship, the students of the Program interpreted in a dummy booth a meeting of the legal subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UPC COPUOS). They were supervised by current interpreters from the UN Office at Vienna Interpretation Service. They analyzed difficult parts of the reports with the students, gave useful advice and shared translation hacks that can help out a simultaneous interpreter in a difficult situation.

In addition, there were master classes on various aspects of translation activities: written translation of legal texts, interpretation from French and Spanish into Russian, translation of protocol vocabulary.

Thanks to the internship, the students of the Program gained valuable experience of simultaneous interpreting in real-life conditions and improved their professional skills.
