2020: So far, so close

29.12.2020

This unusual year brought a lot of difficulties and grief, but it also brought a lot of happy and interesting moments. Let’s remember the highlights of the year in our traditional New Year’s digest.

90th anniversary

In 2020 MSLU and some of its departments and creative teams celebrated their anniversaries.

The university’s web-site, which launch was timed to coincide with the anniversary, was filled with interesting historical photos and warm memories, and also numerous congratulations from our graduates, academic partners, Russian and international organizations, legations and federal authorities.

That year was also marked by the active work of MSLU’s endowment. This development foundation grants everyone an opportunity to provide financial support to the university.

Victory and success

As always, in 2020 our students and professors demonstrated their high professionalism. MSLU traditionally holds top spots in national and international ratings and 2020 wasn’t an exception.

Our students secured an unprecedented victory in the competition within the framework of the Model UN and took part in publishing of the book “7 Bulgarian stories, 7 Bulgarian writers, 7 student translators”.

Life online

Due to the imposed epidemiologic restrictions new forms of studying were added to the MSLU curriculum. We held several key international scientific and practical conferences: “Authentic Dialogue between Russia and the Francophone World”, Russian-Italian conference, the international conference “Nurnberg trials: the translation that changed the fate of the world”Russian-Korean humanitarian forum “Bridge of Friendship” .

Distance learning of 2020 introduced some novelties into teaching the students of special course of UN interpreting. The students made an online trip to the European Parliament and also enhanced their mastery at online classes with specialists from the UN headquarters in Geneve.

In the Summer we organized a city camp event, which allowed many students from other countries enliven their holidays. Moreover, the Summer School of the Russian language and Culture was held.

This year was unlike any other. Of course, many of our ambitious plans were ruined, but all of us, professors, employees, students and postgraduates faced this challenge with dignity. We enhanced our skills of distance learning, mastered the virtual etiquette, became more mobile and modern. And the most important thing is that we realized how important real conversation is. Nothing can replace it.

We thank 2020 for the new experience! We are welcoming 2021 which we hope will become the time of breakthroughs, victories for each and every one of us.

PS. To create a festive mood we have recorded a musical postcard from our choir Musica Linguae.
