Representatives of Moscow State Linguistic University took part in the Eighth Conference of the Network of Universities with Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations, held in Vienna under the theme “Language professions embrace change”.
The event was jointly organized by the UN Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) and Saint Joseph University of Beirut, bringing together over 160 participants, including DGACM staff and delegates from MoU partner universities. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Movses Abelian, Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management.
MSLU, a member of the MoU network since 2019, was represented by Irina Shokina, Head of the Training Programme for Candidates for the Competitive Language Examinations and Director of International Cooperation, and Ekaterina Pokholkova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.
The conference provided a platform to exchange experience in training translators and interpreters for international careers, and to discuss how language professions are evolving in response to technological advances and the rise of artificial intelligence. A key focus was on rethinking competencies and redesigning curricula to better prepare candidates for the UN Competitive Examinations for Language Professions (CELPs).
