MSLU students and faculty members of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of have translated into Russian the novel Chiquita, I Will Always Love You by Dominican writer Arelys Domínguez.
The translation project was carried out by MSLU students Alexandra Konnova and Anastasia Satrivanova, as well as the Department’s graduates and current faculty members Ekaterina Barzykina and Sofia Kolesnik. The project was supervised by Anna Álvarez Soler, Head of the Department of Spanish Language and Translation.
The completion of the translation was marked by a meeting with the author, who visited MSLU with the support of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Russia.
During the meeting, students and faculty members discussed literary translation, contemporary Latin American literature, and the challenges of preserving an author’s style when adapting a text into another language.
Arelys Domínguez thanked the translators for their careful work and commitment to the original text. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Dominican Republic Alejandro Arias Zarsuela presented the students with certificates of appreciation.
