MSLU Students Meet Ecuadorian Poet and Translator Marco Antonio Cornejo Ubillús

On 2 June, students and faculty members of MSLU met with Ecuadorian poet and poetry translator Marco Antonio Cornejo Ubillús. He is the only specialist in Ecuador who translates literary works directly from Russian into Spanish.

Marco Antonio Cornejo Ubillús has published extensive Spanish-language anthologies of Russian poetry featuring works by renowned authors, including Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Sergei Yesenin, Anna Akhmatova, and Alexander Blok, whom he considers his favourite Russian poet.

In her welcoming remarks, Ekaterina Pokholkova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at MSLU, highlighted the importance of such meetings for future translators and thanked the guest for sharing his professional experience with young specialists.

During the meeting, Marco Antonio spoke about his creative journey, his translation projects, and the challenges faced by Spanish-speaking translators working with Russian poetry. He also presented several of his books to the N. Guillén Centre for Linguocultural Studies of Latin America and the Caribbean at MSLU. The meeting concluded with an informal discussion, during which the guest answered questions from students and participants.
