MSLU Hosts Secretariat Meeting of the Alliance of Chinese-Russian Language Education Universities

On 18 June, Moscow State Linguistic University hosted the Secretariat Meeting of the Alliance of Chinese-Russian Language Education Universities. The event was held as part of the Russia–China Years of Cooperation in Education and alongside the II International Scientific and Practical Conference on Language Education.

Welcoming the participants, MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva highlighted the significance of the meeting, noting that it was the first Secretariat Meeting of the Alliance to take place in Moscow. She emphasized that the event had brought together university leaders, international officers, deans, and leading scholars in Chinese and Russian studies from both countries in both in-person and online formats.

Cao Shihai, Minister Counsellor and Head of the Education Office at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Russia, stressed the growing importance of language education in strengthening cultural dialogue. He noted that more than 100,000 people are currently studying Chinese in Russia, while Russian is taught at over 400 universities and 300 schools across China. He also reaffirmed the Embassy's support for the further development of the Alliance.

The Alliance was established in 2023 on the initiative of MSLU and Heilongjiang University, with its official launch taking place in Harbin in May 2024. Since then, it has grown from 64 to 82 member universities (43 Chinese and 39 Russian) and has been recognized as one of the 15 key China–Russia university alliances supported by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

The Alliance serves as a platform for academic and research cooperation, promoting student and faculty exchanges, joint educational programmes on the history and culture of both countries, and collaborative research in linguistics and translation studies.
