25.03.2026
On March 9, Moscow State Linguistic University welcomed an official delegation from the Republic of Colombia, including Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Colombia to the Russian Federation Jorge Ignacio Zorro Sánchez and First Secretary of the Embassy Juan Pablo Osorio Jaramillo.
The MSLU delegation included Vice-Rector for International Relations Georgiy Grachev, Head of the Department for International Cooperation and Internationalisation Irina Shokina, and Director of the Centre for Ibero-American Programmes Yan Burlay.
The main focus of the meeting was the expansion of academic cooperation. The parties discussed prospects for strategic partnerships with leading Colombian universities across MSLU’s educational programmes, including the possible signing of a memorandum of understanding and participation in bilateral educational initiatives.
Special attention was also given to cooperation in information sciences — an area of growing interest for universities in Latin America, including Colombia. The Colombian delegation expressed strong interest in MSLU’s Institute of Information Sciences, where students specialising in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence also receive advanced training in professional communication in two foreign languages.
The parties highlighted MSLU’s successful cooperation with the Embassy of Colombia, including previous visits by Colombian writers Eduardo García and Javier Ortiz Cassiani, as well as ongoing audiovisual translation and subtitling projects carried out by MSLU master’s students for the Embassy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain regular academic exchange. Ambassador Zorro Sánchez also announced plans to deliver a lecture in Spanish for MSLU students on the work of Nobel Prize-winning Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez.
