On January 24, MSLU hosted a landmark event – the international roundtable "Universities of Russia, Brazil, and Belarus: Linguistic Vectors of Cooperation." The event welcomed a distinguished guest – Roberto de Andrade Medronho, Rector of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), MSLU's new academic partner. This gathering not only facilitated discussions on future collaboration but also underscored the strengthening academic ties between the three nations.
The roundtable brought together leading experts in linguistic education and representatives from top universities in Russia, Brazil, and Belarus, opening new avenues for joint initiatives. The roundtable addressed a wide range of topics essential for the development of international academic cooperation. Participants discussed academic mobility initiatives, including opportunities for student and faculty exchanges between MSLU and UFRJ, as well as the prospects for launching joint educational programs. Another key issue was the strengthening of collaboration within the League of Universities of Russia, Brazil, and Belarus, with a focus on cooperation in linguistic education and research. Additionally, participants proposed organizing a BRICS University Conference in 2025 at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
The event also saw the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, leading Russian universities, and delegations from Brazil and Belarus.
A highlight of the event was the signing of cooperation agreements between MSLU, Lobachevsky University (the National Research State University of Nizhny Novgorod), Belgorod State National Research University, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. As one of Brazil’s premier academic institutions, UFRJ is now a strategic partner for Russian universities in implementing joint projects. The agreements will facilitate expanded faculty and student exchange programs, joint scientific research initiatives, the development of new academic programs, and the organization of international academic conferences.
The roundtable concluded with a strong emphasis on the continued development of academic partnerships among Russian, Brazilian, and Belarusian universities. Participants expressed confidence that collaborative projects in linguistics and education will enhance cultural exchange and contribute to the scientific and academic potential of all three nations. Moscow State Linguistic University remains committed to fostering international cooperation and expanding global academic networks.
