29.05.2025
On May 15–16, 2025, MSLU held the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference named after Sergey Goncharenko:
“The Art of Translation.” The event was dedicated to three anniversaries — the 95th anniversary of MSLU, the 80th birthday of Hispanist, poet, and translator Sergey Goncharenko, and the 95th birthday of renowned linguist and educator Nelly Kurchatkina.
The conference focused on teaching Romance languages, translation practice, educational tools, and the challenges of translating literary and audiovisual works.
At the opening ceremony, ambassadors and representatives from the embassies of Argentina, Mexico, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Cuba, and Nicaragua warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of translation in bridging cultures and generations.
Welcoming remarks were also delivered by Konstantin Nikiforov, Director of the Institute for Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Nadezhda Starikova, Head of the Department of Contemporary Latin American Literature at the Institute of World Literature.
Over two days, the conference featured 70 presentations, four workshops, and a roundtable discussion. It brought together professional translators, scholars, and educators from Russia and abroad — all united in a productive and collegial atmosphere.
