MSLU Hosts International Seminar “Russian Language — A Language That Unites Peoples”

On June 6, MSLU held the 7th International Scientific and Practical Seminar “Russian Language — A Language That Unites Peoples” to mark UN Russian Language Day, celebrated annually on the birthday of poet Alexander Pushkin. The event was co-organized by the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow.
In her opening remarks, MSLU First Vice-Rector - Vice-Rector for Education Larisa Petruchak emphasized the importance of Russian as a tool for international dialogue. Welcoming addresses were also delivered by Alexander Alimov, Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Vladimir Kuznetsov, Head of the UN Information Centre in Moscow.
Linguist and professor Maksim Krongauz gave a talk on contemporary debates around the Russian language in the 21st century. Natalia Fefelova, Russian language instructor at FAO (UN) and at UNINT University in Rome, spoke about teaching Russian in international organizations.
A highlight of the seminar was a poetry reading by international MSLU students from Romania, Italy, Syria, India, Vietnam, and Chad. Through the works of Pushkin, Akhmatova, and Simonov, they shared their deep appreciation for the Russian language.
The seminar became a heartfelt celebration of Russian Language Day and reaffirmed the global cultural and educational significance of the Russian language.
