MSLU Holds 5th Anniversary UN Translation Model
27.05.2025
From May 20 to 22, Moscow State Linguistic University held the 5th International UN Translation Model — a signature event fully designed and conducted by MSLU. This year, 65 participants simulated a special ECOSOC Youth Commission session on
“Youth as a Driver of Progress: A Key to Sustainable Development and a Better Future.”
The event brought together students from MSLU and partner institutions, including the Military University of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Astrakhan State University, Volgograd State University, Ivanovo State University, and Minsk State Linguistic University — forming a strong international team of future diplomats and interpreters.
The Model UN at MSLU combines a UN-style conference with role-play, giving participants the chance to draft and adopt resolutions on pressing global issues. A hallmark of the event is full simultaneous interpretation in four official UN languages: English, Spanish, French, and Russian. Interpreting was carried out by students and alumni of MSLU’s Training Programme for Candidates for the Competitive Language Examinations, as well as interpreters from Astrakhan State University.
In her opening speech, MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva highlighted the Model’s unique place in Russia’s MUN movement thanks to its professional multilingual interpretation. The ceremony also featured remarks from officials of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the UN Information Centre in Moscow, and the World Federation of United Nations Associations.
At the closing ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin personally awarded certificates to the three top delegates. All other participants received certificates from Irina Shokina, Director of the Training Programme for Candidates for the Competitive Language Examinations and Head of MSLU’s International Cooperation Office.
