MSLU Strengthens Partnerships with Cuban Universities
27.12.2024

From December 18 to 20, 2024, a delegation from MSLU, led by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Vladimir Storozhev and lecturer Maxim Zubov from the Department of Spanish Language and Translation, visited Cuba at the invitation of the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) in Havana. The visit served to reinforce the long-standing partnership between MSLU and UCI, as well as to explore new opportunities for collaboration.

On December 19, the delegation held a meeting with UCI leadership, where they discussed the achievements of joint projects. These include regular short-term faculty exchanges and lecture series on specialized subjects. UCI representatives highlighted the success of the 2022 Winter School, where MSLU experts delivered lectures on information security management and compliance audits. After the meeting, the delegation toured the UCI campus, gaining insight into the academic environment of Cuban students and the living and learning conditions for MSLU students completing internships at the university.

That evening, the delegation attended a graduation ceremony at the Karl Marx Theater for the first cohort of students completing the Cyber security program. Vladimir Storozhev personally presented diplomas to outstanding graduates, including students who had studied at MSLU during the 2024-2025 academic year. The ceremony showcased the strong cooperation between the two universities in the fields of information technology and cyber security.

The visit also included a meeting with Dionisio Saldívar Pérez, Vice-Rector for Internationalization at the University of Havana, where discussions focused on potential future collaborations, such as student exchange programs and joint research projects.

At the University of Matanzas, the delegation met with Rector Leida Finalé de la Cruz and other university leaders. They also interacted with law students interning at the Faculty of Law and students from Matanzas who had previously studied at MSLU in Russian language and international hospitality management programs.

The visit to Cuba was an important milestone in MSLU's efforts to strengthen international partnerships. The delegation’s work, supported by the exceptional interpreting skills of Maxim Zubov, highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and advancing educational initiatives.
