On July 10, graduates of the Language Skills Training Programme for preparing translators for work in international organizations and competitive language exams received their diplomas.
MSLU is historically tied with the UN thanks to the UN Interpreter Course, which from 1961 to 1991 worked in the Maurice Thorez Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. In 2019, the UN and MSLU signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the field of preparing candidates for participation in competitive examinations.
Having spoken about his own experience of working at the UN as part of the UN International Civil Service Commission, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Vladimir Storozhev solemnly presented diplomas to nine graduates of the Program who completed a year-long training course.
The head of the Program for training translators for work in international organizations and competitive language exams and the coordinator on the part of MSLU for the Memorandum of Agreement between the UN and MSLU Irina Shokina, director of the Institute of Continuing Education Svetlana Konkova, director of the Center for Additional and Professional Education addressed the graduates with congratulations and parting wishes INO Maria Stepanets, program teachers Victoria Frolova, Elena Bavarova, Olga Kurchatkina, Vasily Fadeev, as well as editor-in-chief of the RPK Group (Russian Translation Company) Ksenia Kostrova congratulated the graduates.
Since 2018, 10 graduates have successfully passed the competitive language exam, which allowed them to work for the UN on a freelance basis. In 2023, 6 graduates of the Program successfully passed a competitive language exam and were enrolled in the Global Language Roster for the position of full-time UN interpreters and translators.
The Program features master classes:
• current translators for interpretation and translation services of the UN offices in New York, Geneva, Vienna and Bangkok;
• employees of the Department of Linguistic Support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation;
• experts from ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for the Asia-Pacific Region of the United Nations) in Bangkok.
Students of the Program completed full-time internships in interpretation services at the UN offices in Vienna, Geneva, Nairobi and Bangkok, as well as remote internships in the translation service at the UN office in New York.
