The phonetic Olympiad in English "MSLU + MSLU & friends" has ended

Moscow State Linguistic University hosted the International Phonetic Olympiad in English "MSLU + MSLU & friends", which ended on April 23 with an award ceremony.

The competition was held for the third year in cooperation with Minsk State Linguistic University. The Departments of English Phonetics of both universities were responsible for organizing and conducting the event. The purpose of the Olympiad is to strengthen friendly relations between the two educational institutions, maintain students' interest in the phonetics of the English language and improve their pronunciation skills.

This year, the number of participants has almost doubled: more than 100 students took part in the competition, including not only representatives of both MSLUs, but also MGIMO, RUDN, Ivanovo State University, Orenburg State University, St. Petersburg State University, the Russian Christian Humanitarian Academy named after F.M.Dostoevsky, Mozyr State Pedagogical University named after I.P.Shamyakin and Belarusian State University.

The contestants proved themselves in four categories: recitation of poetry and prose, spontaneous speaking and testing for knowledge of phonetic norms and rules of the English language. The participants demonstrated not only excellent pronunciation, but also excellent vocal skills and acting skills, reciting excerpts from classical and modern prose and poetry.

The Grand Prix of the Olympiad for winning in several nominations, as well as for her brilliant knowledge of phonetics, was awarded to Sofia Ambrozheychik, a student of the Translation Faculty of Minsk State Linguistic University, and Diana Omelchenko, a student of the Faculty of the English Language of Moscow State Linguistic University.
