Portuguese Language Day at MSLU
A concert of Portuguese music was held at MSLU on the eve of Camões Day on June 3. It was organized by the Translation Faculty’s Department of Portuguese Language and Culture. Next year (2023) the Department will mark its 60th anniversary: for more than half a century the Moscow State Linguistic University has been training Lusophone specialists for various spheres of activity.
The guests and the audience were welcomed by Ksenia Nechaeva, head of the Portuguese language department, Carlos Suzuki de Amorim, first secretary of the Brazilian Embassy, and Tatyana Evgrafova, director of the Ibero-American Cultural Center of the Foreign Literature Library. MSLU students, the main participants in the event and admirers of Portuguese culture, as well as guests from MGIMO and Moscow State University gathered in the University’s assembly hall to listen to Portuguese Fado, fiery Brazilian rhythms and the melodious poetry of Luiz Camões, Fernando Pessoa, José Saramago.
The celebration of the Portuguese language was not limited to the festivities at the Assembly Hall. Mr. de Amorim also visited the MSLU Office for International Cooperation and Internationalization to discuss the history of cooperation between MSLU and Brazilian universities. The two countries have been actively collaborating in education since 2017. For example, MSLU has concluded two cooperation agreements with a university in Brasília and Fluminense University in Rio de Janeiro. Today a total of 105 students are studying Portuguese at MSLU, and the next Brazilian internship is planned for the fall.
