2nd International Translation Model UN MSLU

21.06.2022
On June 1-3, MSLU and MSU students participated in the role-playing game "Model UN MSLU" during which the participants simulated the work of official delegates at UN General Assembly meetings.

Irina Kraeva, MSLU Rector, inaugurated the model by reminding the participants of the history of such business games and their importance in educational process. In her remarks the Rector stressed the theme of this year’s model - preventing armed conflicts, creating ways to ensure peace and implementing the agenda of up to 2030.

The participants were also welcomed by Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow, Irina Shokina, head of the program for the training of interpreters for international organizations, Ekaterina Pokholkova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, and Olga Titkova, Director of the Institute for International Relations and Social and Political Sciences.

For three days, representatives from more than 20 countries discussed issues of disarmament, military conflicts and international security. The special feature of Model UN MSLU was that all the proceedings were fully interpreted by students of simultaneous interpreting from both Universities.  The debates were held concurrently in several languages, with English being the core language. To maintain its authenticity, even speeches in the Russian language were translated. For the first time in the history of this business game in Russia, a German translation service was involved in the model.
