MSLU opens the Center for linguacultural studies of Latin American countries and the countries of the Caribbean, named after Nicholas Gillen

On November 12th with participation of the Minister of higher education of the Republic of Cuba Jose Ramon Saborido MSLU opened the Center for linguacultural studies of Latin American countries and the countries of the Caribbean named after Nicholas Gillen.

At the grand opening of the Center and the following discussion of the strategy for developing the mutual relations from the Cuban side were the Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba Maria Victoria Villavicencio Plasencia, Specialist on Russia of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba Barbara Carell Fure, Counselor for Education and Science of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Gustavo Cobreiro Suarez and TV journalist Milenis Torres Labrada. In her introductory speech, the rector of MSLU Irina Kraeva noted that MSLU has formed a comprehensive school of Hispanics and throughout many decades the students have never run out of interest for studying the Spanish language and the culture of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The agenda of the meeting also outlined the matters of developing cooperation and strengthening the established relations between MSLU and top Cuban universities. The sides planned a number of lectures and practical classes in the field of “Information security” and discussed the details of a possible internship of MSLU students at the Bureau of Translation and Interpretation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.

In conclusion of the meeting the representatives of the Cuban delegation thanked MSLU for hospitality, attention to the culture of the Hispanic world and expressed confidence of further, more fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation.
