Would you like to know how languages and cultures interact in the increasingly globalised world? Are you interested in studying at least two foreign languages? Would you take the challenge of applying your knowledge and skills to working with young language learners? If so, then our university has an attractive option for you.

Programme Overview

Our 4-year Bachelor programme is designed to develop your competence in foreign languages and cross-cultural communication: you will acquire a solid foundation in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and style of two modern foreign languages. It will also prepare you to teach language learners in a variety of educational contexts.

Lectures by MSLU's renowned professors and small group language training classes make a good combination of sound theoretical grounding and language skills learned first-hand.

At the end of your studies you will have an oral final examination in your two languages and teaching skills. You will also give a viva presentation of your graduation research paper (Bachelor’s Thesis).

On graduation you can either continue your studies to get a Master’s Degree or go out to work in a large number of fields, mostly teaching at primary and secondary level.

Year 1

The first year focuses on developing your competence in your FL1 and laying the foundation of FL2 (from the second semester).

You are also offered a number of other courses, such as History, Philosophy, Classical Languages and Cultures, Stylistics of the Russian Language, etc.

Year 2

In the second year you develop your knowledge of such disciplines as General Linguistics, History and Geography of Foreign Countries, Intercultural Communication and Theoretical Phonetics. These subjects are combined with intensive study of your two foreign languages.

Year 3

During the third year you will enhance your FL1 and FL2 skills and have Lexicology, Theoretical Grammar and the History of the Language (FL1), as well as FL Teaching Methodology on the curriculum. You will lay the foundations of your teaching skills through two weeks of classroom observation and analysis.

Year 4

In the fourth year of your Bachelor programme you will take on Stylistics, History of Literature (FL1) and Information Technologies for Linguistics along with some other subjects. A Translation Course is a valuable addition to the curriculum. You will be allowed four weeks to complete your Bachelor’s Thesis and gain some teaching experience.
