MSLU Celebrates Vietnamese New Year

On February 8, the Vietnamese Club of MSLU held a meeting dedicated to the Lunar New Year, known as Tet in the country. The event was attended by students studying Vietnamese language at MSLU, RFTA, MGIMO, and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cadets of the Military University of the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as Vietnamese students of MSLU.

The celebration began with the screening of a documentary film in Vietnamese, which showcased the traditions of celebrating Tet in different parts of the country. This was followed by a quiz: Vietnamese students asked their Russian friends questions about Tet celebration traditions, and in turn, they tested the Vietnamese students' knowledge about celebrating the New Year in Russia.

The thematic part concluded with a small improvised concert: the Vietnamese students performed a song about Tet, the students from the Diplomatic Academy recited poems, and the first-year students from the Department of Translation and Interpretation performed a very famous song in Vietnam called "Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh." Afterwards, there was a friendly tea party during which the Vietnamese and Russian students were able to exchange impressions in two languages.

The meeting was covered by Vietnamese media accredited in Russia: the Vietnamese Information Agency (VIA) and the newspaper "Nhan Dan" – a body of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The main goal of the Vietnamese Club is to establish contacts between the Vietnamese students studying at MSLU and their peers learning Vietnamese. Informal communication over a cup of tea helps to overcome language barriers, learn a lot of interesting things about each other's culture and traditions, and ultimately make new friends. Such meetings significantly increase students' motivation to study at the university and their interest in the country whose language they are learning.
